PowerPoint XP vs 2000

I created a shape in XP using autoshape and added text in the shape. My boss
edited the presentation in 2000 and returned it to me. When I opened it up,
each line converted to a frame/text box, every dash coverted to a separate
frame/text box, and every * converted to its own frame/text box. It took me
30 minutes to make 2 changes (which should have only taken a minute) because
I had to select and group the text boxes to move them down. Because we need
to share information, is there anything that would prevent this from
happening?

This is what happens when someone ungroups an autoshape or table with text
in PPT -- everything gets divided into individual boxes just as you've
described. (Nice description, by the way!)

If you just typed into a regular autoshape, your boss shouldn't have had to
ungroup it to edit the text. However, if the "shape" was, for example, an
organization chart created in PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP), then your boss might
have had to ungroup to get at the text to edit it because PPT 2002
introduced a new type of diagram that wasn't available in PPT 2000.

Otherwise, to get this type of thing from a regular autoshape, your boss
would have had to select the shape, cut it, use Edit|Paste Special as WMF or
EMF and then Draw|Ungroup. I can't imagine anyone going through that if they
didn't have to!

Which autoshape did you use when you created the shape?
