IS THERE A WAY TO PROTECT A PRESENTATION FROM BEING EDITED
BY SOMEONE ELSE, LIKE YOU CAN A WORD DOCUMENT?

They mention "read only" in the help files, but it doesn't
appeas as if you can Save As read only.

However, I was able to create a .ppt and save it. Then I
went into Explorer and right-clicked on the file, selected
properties, and selected the Read Only checkbox at the
bottom. This made the presentation read only when I re-
opened it.

Does this mean that no one else can uncheck or check that
box - I don't know, but it's a start.

Hi, Mary, you can password protect a document two ways,
you can require a password to just Open a presentation,
or you can require a password to change (Edit) a
Powerpoint document. Here are the instructions, taken
directly from the Help option within MS Powerpoint:

1. Open the presentation you want to password protect.

2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the
Security tab.

3.Do one of the following:

- To require a password to open a presentation, in the
Password to open box, type a password, and then click OK.

- To require a password to modify a presentation, in the
Password to modify box, type a password, and then click
OK.

Note: Setting a modify password allows others who do not
know the password to view the presentation, but prevents
them from making any changes to the presentation.

In the Confirm Password dialog box, type the password
again, and then click OK.

You can only do this in PowerPoint 2002 and later
versions, not in earlier versions.

If Mary has powerPoint 2000, she wont be able to do as you
suggest

The best way to protect a PPT from edits is to put a
password on it. Tools --> Options --> Security -->
Password to Modify.
