Presentation mode freezes

Running Powerpoint on a Apple PowerBook G4, OS 9.2.2,with
512mb RAM.
Using Office 2001 Powerpoint in presention mode displays
fine.When I exit presention mode the computer locks up. I
have done a "clean install" of the OS and Office 2001.
Ran hardware diagnostics and zapped the PRAM to no
avail.Before I wipe the drive clean I wonder if anyone
knew just what Powerpoint is trying to do at this point
of the process ?

where the Mac experts hang out.
