Prevent Microsoft Office 2003 from embedding diagrams, ToC, etc.

Microsoft 2003 embeds my diagrams and ToC, which makes it impossible for me
to check that the page breaks (300 pages) fall in appropriate places; the
breaks don't separate material that should stay together. I would like to
turn off this function.
