Preview Pane not refreshing; cannot open nor edit appointments

I am running Outlook/Office 2000 SP3 on an standalone Windows XP laptop.

Just recently, I started experiencing several issues with Outlook including:

- Preview Pane does not refresh with contents of current message when I
click on a new message in the Inbox, or scroll/arrow down to a new message.
- I cannot open an existing appointment in the Calendar.
- I can no longer change or edit the time for an appointment by dragging it
to another time slot or by click-dragging the top or bottom of the
appointment slot.

Appreciate any help and suggestions.

I know these issues exist with Outlook 2003 and a shutdown/reboot of the
computer usually helps, especially if the computer has been on for a longish
period of time.

I have shut down Outlook and re-booted several times, but this does not
address the problem.
