Print type white on something clear to overlay?

I am trying to show white type on a colored, handpainted background. I
thought I could print the type white on a translucent sheet of sticky paper,
and lay it over, but the type always prints clear, not white. Does anyone
know how to actually print white, rather than just drop the type out of some
sort of shaded background or border? Thank you very much!

White isn't a choice. Look in your printer, if you have a white cartridge then you
can print white.

As Mary points out, you need white ink. There are some printers for which
you can actually get a white cartridge -- you set up your text to print in
black, then insert the white cartridge in place of the black.

There are also techniques involving transfer film that you can buy from
specialist print and craft suppliers. As I understand it, you print in black
onto the film, treat it somehow, and end up with a colored or white decal
corresponding to the black image you printed.
