Printing in Word

When I go to print in Word XP, and check under Preferences, and then Paper/Quality the Media is default Glossy paper. Is there someway to change it to make plain paper the default in case I forget to change it. It sure uses lots of ink in glossy when I do not change it. Thanks ahead to you smart people who can help. This is a printer setting. Set it in the printer Properties.
