Printing reports with a date range

LadyBean01

Hi,
I know there are similar postings out there, but none of the suggestions are
working for me. I have a project that spans a number of months, say June 05
to March 06.

I want to print a report (Resource Usage), I want to show 5 weeks when I
print it, but I only want to show those 5 weeks and not all of the project
dates (which is creating 100s of pages of report). So, for example, I want to
see June 1, June 8, June 15, June 22, June 29, but NOT anything else on the
report, not July, not August, etc.

I have tried and tried using Date Range - I think what this does is filter
out the tasks (rows), but it doesn't change the columns shown.

Help!

I forgot to add: I'm using Project 2003. Also, I realize in terms of MS
terminology, my subject line might be confusing: to put it another way, I'm
looking for a way to print out only a selected section of the project
timescale.
Thanks

LadyBean01,
You are correct that Date Range filters out the tasks.
To get the timephased info you are looking for, try temporarily
changing your project start date to June 1. >Project, >Project
Information

Hope this helps!

Hi LadyBean01,

When you print a view or report in Project, you can select the date range to
print in the Print Dialog box under the Timescale portion.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks for responding with a suggestion! The project start date change is a
good idea, but isn't going to work for me - I get messages about tasks
starting before the project start date and I don't want to change task
relationships, who knows what could break - also, I want to be able to -
conveniently - pick a two week window to print at any time in the project
timeline - changing the start date, with all that this entails, seems risky
to me, like I might mess up the data.

Seems like this is something that isn't possible. So strange to me as it
seems like fairly usable, "normal" usage of a project plan....

Hi Julie,
Thanks for responding with a suggestion - as I wrote in my original, I am
aware of the Date Range functionality - this works well to filter out *rows*,
but there doesn't seem to be a functionality to filter out "columns" of dates
- I want to view the report in weeks, which leads to many pages of weeks
across the six month span of the project - but I only want to see a two week
window!

Thanks anyway.

Hi LadyBean01,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

No - Julie meant you to go to File/Print and select the date range there!

OK, I'm sorry - now I get what you guys are saying - yes, this DOES work to
filter out pages. For whatver view I'm in - for example, Gantt view. HOWEVER
- what would be the best way to apply this kind of date filter to a view or a
report that is sorted by Resource; something like this:

RESOURCE 1 WK END DATE
WK END DATE 2
Task 1 Date Start Date Finish % Complete
Task 2 Date Start Date Finish % Complete

RESOURCE 2 WK END DATE
WK END DATE 2
Task 1 Date Start Date Finish % Complete
Task 2 Date Start Date Finish % Complete

Should I apply a different table? Is there a predefined one - I really like
some of the reports and would like to have this kind of filter available for
reports, but that does not seem to be possible - however, if I can use a View
or a Table, this will probably get me there. Thoughts?

Thanks so much
Marianne

I've done some more digging - the Resource Usage view, with some fields added
comes pretty close to what I want and I will probably use this. ...I think I
will have to apply a Project Filter to filter out the tasks I don't need to
see, will look into this...but this will probably do it I'm thinking. Thanks
for your help.
