Problem deleting old messages from Entourage Inbox window

I have a batch of messages from last March in the Entourage Inbox
window for a university server on my Powerbook with OS 10.4.7 that I
cannot erase from the server's Inbox window in Entourage. Even after
trashing them on or moving and purging from various Entourage folders
on the Mac, this one batch of about 25 messages continues to appear in
the Inbox window. There has been no problem with earlier or later
messages, nor does this batch of messages appear in the window for the
same server when I access it with the Apple Mail program.

Any ideas how to purge them without re-installing Entourage and/or
losing the messages I want to keep?

Try ctrl/right-clicking your account's inbox in Entourage's folder list and
select "Repair Message List" from the contextual menu. If that doesn't solve
the problem, choose "Empty Cache" from the same menu; Entourage will now
re-download every message in your inbox, and you should no longer see these
ghost messages.

The reason for this behaviour: Entourage caches, i.e. creates a local
version of your inbox, and sometimes, messages get stuck in that cache. The
messages are properly deleted from the IMAP server (as you can see when you
access the inbox from other e-mail clients), but they remain as ghost
messages on your computer, and only the procedures mentioned above will help
you get rid of them.
