Problem retrieving mail from hosted Exchange 2003 server and Entourage 2004

I have a client who's Entourage 2004 has suddenly stopped receiving
mail. He has a Titanium Powerbook G4 running OS 10.4 and Entourage
2004. Because of the way the Exchange server is hosted, he cannot
connect directly to the Exchange server but has to connect via OWA
settings in Entourage. All was working fine until about two weeks ago.
Since that time, his Entourage connects and authenticates to the
Exchange server--the host company can watch his connection and see that
he is successfully authenticating--Entourage then updates his calendar
and contacts, but stops before any mail is retrieved. He can even send
messages, and they save to his Sent Items on the Exchange server (he
can see them if he logs in directly to OWA on the web), but no new mail
is coming in. Ideas? His Office 2004 has all the latest patches, and
the company who hosts the Exchange server says they have not made any
recent changes.

Hi,
He can even send

is coming in. Ideas? His Office 2004 has all the latest patches, and

It's pretty difficult to say kust like that.
You have the option to reset the sync status by completely rebuilding
the Entrouage database. Pres the alt key as you launch the application
adn chose to rebuild the database. The operation completely trashed the
Excahgne cache and forces the application to re-download everything from
the server. That might fix the problem.
If it doesn't, I fear you'llhave to perform some port sniffing and look
at the log to determine what happens when Entourage attemps to get the
e-mails.

Now the problem has changed. The host of the server recreated his
Exchange account, and he was able to download mail again. Now,
however, he has found that Entourage has created duplicates of all his
contacts and calendar items. If he rebuilds the database, as you
suggest, will he lose all his settings? For instance, within Entourage
he has different color labels for different meetings--will those
settings be lost?

Thanks!

The problem has now changed. The host of the server deleted and
recreated his Exchange account, and he was again able to retrieve mail
and everything else. Now, though, he has found that Entourage is
duplicating all his calendar items and contacts. If he rebuilds the
database, as you suggest, will he lose all his personal settings? For
instance, he has colors associated with different calendar items, will
he lose those?

Thanks!

the calendar items and contacts are stored locally as well. He
"shouldn't" lose these settings, though I'm not 100% sure....
