Problem with bullet style

I am using Word 97 and having a problem when I copy a
bullet paragraph from one document to another. The bullet
style is not coming over with its bullet attribute, it
looks like the Normal style. Yet the style name shows as
bullet and when I re apply the style it's OK.
Does anyone know why this would be happening? Any help is
much appreciated.
