Problem with copying an EXCEL File

I'm trying to copy an EXCEL file from one folder to another. It appears that
the file copies but when I try to open the pasted file I get the following
error message:

[Full name of file] could not be found. Check the spelling of the file
name, and verify that the file location is correct.

if you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used
files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved,
or deleted.

I have tried multiple things -- save as to the new location; renaming it,
etc. but nothing seems to work. It does open up in its original location.
I don't understand what is going on.

Any help would be appreciated.
