problem with Entourage and Exch 2000

here is the scenario

- entourage is loaded onto mac with updates
- after configuring entourage to talk to the exchange
server, the following message occurs
- an error occurred on the IMAP server; a connection
failure has occured

IMAP services are running on the exchange server
- i confirmed this by going to a PC and setting up Outlook
as an IMAP client and it worked. essentially I am doing
the same thing with Entourage and it does not work.

Can someone help or provide a reason why this is not
working.

I had that same problem when I first installed the update and had the
setting for 'This IMAP service requires a secure connection SSL'. I turned
it off but made sure the 'Always use secure password' option was turned on,
and now it seems as though Entourage is connecting to the server because now
I get an 'Invalid account ID or password. Check your account settings.'
error 11003. I know the credentials are correct because they work from
Win2k and WinXP boxes.
Haven't been able to get past that one yet. I am hoping for a response in
here about it.

I get an 'Invalid account ID or password. Check your account settings.'

I got this one after allowing Entourage to self-configure.
Resolved the problem by directing it away from the backend mail server my
account lives on to the front end mail server.
I have no idea why it works that way.

Any other suggestions? We have one server and it is the front and back.

Got a PC handy? Can you connect using an IMAP account in Win OE? Those same
settings should work in Entourage.

Hi Randy,

The following suggestions came from other posters on this newsgroup. Hope
one helps.

1) I found that if you have your network admin reset your password you
should be alright.

2) It comes down to an issue with this client not understanding the
Exchange configuration. It will work if you set the accounts back to
"username"@local for the default account and primary email address.
