Problem with Windows 2003 SharePoint Services Install - Ray Jackson (MCT)

Ray Jackson

We have just found a problem, whilst attending a training
course, with installing the downloaded (even downloadable
today)version of Windows 2003 SharePoint Services Install
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
FamilyId=E084D5CB-1161-46F2-A363-
8E0C2250D990&displaylang=en. The problem lyes with MS. The
binary executable, STSV2.EXE, has been digitally signed
with a expiry date of 25/11/03. This will cause the
folowing error to be advertised on screen:

"Create Config Database : Metadata manifest 'C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\60\bin\sqmcfg.dll' does not exist or has
invalid signature. (Error code: 2779)."

To overcome this problem set your date on your domain (PDC
Emulator/ 1st installed DC) to before 25/11/03 and re-
install. Alternatively contact MS and hassle them to
resign the executable!

Good Luck

I'm confirming this problem in Windows 2003 Small Business Server
(SBS) with SharePoint (preinstalled). Ray's fix also works.

I confirmed this as well, thanks Ray for saving me a huge amount of
time. Also, I just reset the date on the local machine and it seemed
to work (disconnected the NIC just it case it tried to go somewhere
else to get the date).

Cheers,
James
