Problems backing up entourage - says may be aproblem with database

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel
Email Client: pop

I have tried to back up (export) my mail and every time I try I get an error message - saying that there may be a problem with my data - and that I need to verify the database. I have done this and it is all working normally (database utility - verify etc).
So I can't back up Entourage mail, contact etc.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
(Separately in Safari each time I try to download a file Safari quits - any recommendations there too?)
Thanks
Vicky

Some new Entourage 2008 databases are corrupt even though they run as fine.
When you are exporting, are you exporting as Entourage archive or MBOX file?

You might need to start with a clean database by manually moving your data
over. How to manually move your data:

Hmmmm, this is indicating you might have some problems with your base OS
install or hardware problems with your drive.

How full is your HD? Have you run Repair Permissions lately?

Have you applied the latest Apple combo updater? This often fixes odd
problems like this.Combo updaters will install on the same version as
they¹re applying‹no need to roll back or do a clean install.

both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs )
