Problems logging into Exchange account with Mac clients

Hi guys,
I'm experiencing a problem that I hoped someone might be able to shed
some light on. I have a PC and a Mac that I use at work. I am trying to
migrate responsibility from my PC onto my Mac and one of my biggest
problems at the moment is email. I have an Exchange mailbox that I can
log into perfectly with Outlook. I have tried accessing the same
mailbox from my Mac using both Entourage 2004 (11.2.4) and Apple's Mail
program and am encountering a 'login failed' issue. Both programs tell
me that I am entering an invalid username/password for the server. It
would appear that my Mac IS seeing the exchange server (I added the
server to my private/etc/hosts file and the /machines section in
NetInfo Manager) but doesn't like my username/password combo. The
strange thing is that I use the same combo all the time on my Windows
pc? Has anyone ever experienced the same problem?

I was also wondering if I needed to have done at the Exchange server
end for my Mac to gain access?

Thanks!
Martin

Are you in a Windows domain?? Are you using Active DIrectory??

With Entourage 2004, it should be pretty straightforward. You connect to
the OWA web page with your browser and copy the link form there. You use
the link (with the http://) as your Exchange server in your settings in
Entourage.
That usually does the trick.
Of course, make sure you properly enter the domain name.

I am connecting to a Hosted Exchange system. At first I had no
problems connecting. I can send and receive email but then anytime
during the day I will get those exact same login problems. I will
continue to enter in my password and nothing. What I did discover is
that when I logged into OWA from that same machine and then tried
Entourage again I had to problems authenticating at all and was able to
use it for a while. If I close down OWA I can work for a while but
after a few sync's I am done and have to repeat the process. I know I
have everythign configured correctly especially since I am able to work
with no problem for a few hours. Any ideas?

THat sounds like an issue on the setup of the OWA server. I sure don't
see that here. Any chance you could find out whether the server is fully
up to date with the latest patches??

The server is completely patched. I am not sure I understand how this
is an exchange issue though? Once I login through OWA then Entourage
connects just fine. Is it the way it handles the SSL certficate and
not allowing me to login correctly? This seems to be a very common
problem and if its an exchange problem then what are the proper
settings for an exchange server?

Well, I suspect it is an exchange issue because with the same software
and on a different server, I don't see that. Now it could very well be
related to a different setup on your side and mine which would explain
why I never have this problem.

With SSL, either the certificate is already in your X509 anchors or you
need to import it. In any case, if the certificate is not in your
anchors, Entourage will give you a warning. Since you didn't see it, I
suspect you have the certificate properly imported. I really don;t see
what else you could change on your side :-\
