Problems replying to messages

Anthony Nuciforo

I'm trying to use Entourage as a client on an MS Exchange
email server. I've got everything configured properly and
I can send and recieve emails just fine.

Only problem I have is replying to and forwarding emails.
When I try to do this I get a "relaying not allowed" kind
of message back from the server.

My LAN manager, who takes a dim view of my putting a Mac
on his network, tells me that this is due to an
intentional configuration seting on Exchange Server so
that we don't get outsiders using our server to forward
spam and such.

Of course, I don't have this problem on my Win machine,
where we use Outlook. Which tells me that there must be a
way to do this with Entourage.

So my question is: Anyone have any ideas how I can
configure Entourage so that I can reply to and forward
mail messages?

Any help I can get in doing this will be greatly
appreciated and returned in kind, to the extent that I am
able. There may even be a bottle or two of Genuine, home
made wine (Brooklyn's finest!) in it for you as an
incentive.

TIA

Hey there,

I have a similiar problem also - my mail server is a Win
2K machine using mail enable as the software.

My problem is this - we also have Mac's on our network
previously running Entourage. Entourage seems to be able
to send and receive emails from within our network - and
to domains hosted on our server but any other 'external'
email addresses, it runs into trouble.

Errors like:

Your server requires authentication - please check your
mail client.

However, I have tried all those kind of settings and still
no luck.

If I use Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook on the Mac,
they work fine!

Hi Adam,

I also use entourage on a Mail Enable server while at work, and have not
experienced any problems. I also needed to enable smtp authentication, but
it works fine for me. (My server is set up to use a different login to the
POP mail saerver).

If you can post one of the bounce messages in it's entirety, we may be able
to figure out what stage in the process the bounce is occurring.
