Problems when inserting moviefile vs hardware acceleration

E

Emil

I have the problem, that PP freezes whenever inserting af moviefile. Under
Hardware acceleration I tried to move the slider down. FOUR notch... but then
it helped!

But now I'm not able to see the movie in a proper way now (it's freezing all
the time as if my graphic card was too small, don't know the exact word -
english is not my mothers tongue).

What could be the problem then?

First, the notches each disable different aspects of the video acceleration.
So the one aspect that was causing the initial problem was deactivated on
that level. Don't worry, it isn't like your machine is running slower.

The video pausing would suggest that it is not being loaded as fast as it is
being shown.
Is the video file stored on the local hard drive or on a network, CD, DVD,
external drive? Read speeds differ, but usually the fastest is from the
local hard drive.

Is there software that is running in the background? Anti-virus programs
often will scan files being used, which is a good thing. However, if the
file is large (like a video file) and the computer is busy (like with
PowerPoint) it can set up problems. Try disconnecting from the
network/internet and disabling your anti-virus program. Does this improve
the performance?

How much RAM does your computer have and how much of it is used by your
Graphics Card? Some graphics cards have dedicated memory, others share it
with the computer. If the computer is low on RAM, then it has to spend a
lot of time moving RAM information around instead of doing the program
tasks.

Post back if these ideas do not fix the problem.
