Problems when sorting items in Entourage 2004

Hi there.
At the moment, I'm experiencing a few minor problems with Entourage 2004. I
upgraded from Entourage v.X about four months ago, and the program is really
nice, but there seems to be a bug when it comes to linking elements. When I
decide for instance to link a calendar event to an existing contact, the
contact list that appears is not ordered alphabetically. The contacts are
listed as follows:
*contacts that were in the previous Entourage database, alphabetically
*contacts added with Entourage 2004, in an apparently random order
If I click on the "Name" tag, then all the entries are listed from Z to A,
but this time in the correct order, i.e. with all the contacts and not just
the old ones. If I hit that tag again, all the entries are listed
alphabetically, from A to Z.
Now this was just an example, for the same thing also happens with other
elements: notes are arranged by date according to "notes from the old
database, then notes from the new database in a random way". Same for tasks,
and when calendar events are concerned, again, old events, and then new
events. And what's more, I can't even click on the Name/Date buttons to
arrange the list differently, because those buttons won't respond.
What I would like to know is if this is a bug, or if there is something
wrong with my database. Though I have to say that I have run several tests
with the database utility, and every time I get the message that my database
sees to be working correctly. Has anybody experienced the same problem? The
problem's still there after installing the new SR1, by the way.

Thanks for your help.

In Entourage 2004 if the name field is blank, it will get filled in by
another field such as the Company Name or E-mail address. But though this
data appears in the name column, it doesn't affect sorting. Maybe this is
what you're running into?

Hi.
I thought so at first, but then I had a look at the entire list, and it's
not just companies in my address book that don't get sorted the right way.
But I found out a new interesting thing: basically, as I said, the data from
my previous Entourage X user folder is displayed alphabetically. Then
afterwards, there are all the persons/companies I've added since the upgrade
to Entourage 2004. However, I wrote that they were displayed in an
apparently random order, but that's not true. I had a closer look, and as it
seems, the entries are listed chronologically according to the date on which
they were created, meaning that my latest contacts are at the bottom of the
list. Again, if I hit the Name tag, the list is displayed correctly. I'm not
sure, but do you think deleting all the contacts from Entourage and
importing them again (either from a text-delimited file or from Apple's
Address Book) will solve the problem? If so, any suggestions on how to solve
the sorting problem for the calendar events?

I think it might just be a bug in the Link window that it doesn't remember
your previous sort preference.
