Problems with multiple samples DB's in Project Server 2003

Hello,

I am trying to set up multiple copies of the sample DB provided with Project
Server 2003 for demo purposes. I have restored the Data DB to 3 seperate SQL
DB's and restorder the WSS Database to WSS 3 seperate DB's too.

So I have Data1, Data2, Data3 and WSS1, WSS2 and WSS3.

IIS is all configured with the Virtual Servers (Sample1, Sample2 and
Sample3) and I can log into each and I have set the Sharepoint settings for
each one (different port for each site). Everything looks fine. I had to
re-sychronise the project plans for each provisioned web site for Sample1.
BTW Port is 5551 for this site. Checked in Sharepoint Central Admin and it
shows 16 sites for the content DB. So far so good.

Now I repeat the process for Sample2, using the content database setup for
Sample2. Port is 5552. Re-synchronised the web sites. But when I look in
Sharepoint Admin the content database for Sample1 now shows 0 sites whereas
before it was 16. The content DB for Sample 2 now shows 16.

When I setup Sample3 with the content database (WSS3) for that site (Port is
5553), that database now shows 16 sites and the other two sample content
databases show 0 !!

Clearly something is awry here but I can't quite figure out what it is.

If anyone has any ideas on what the problem might be I sure would appreciate
some feedback.

Thanks

James

Hi James,

I have struggled with this too. The problem is that even though you have
setup multiple content databases there is a single configuration database.
This configuration database has links to the sites in the content database.

What I think you are experiencing is that each time you setup a new content
database the links in the config database get overwritten. Hence, the
configuration database only sees the most recently installed content.

Page 161 of the installation guide suggests using a script that uses the
STSADM.exe program. This utility is used to restore sharepoint sites. I
haven't had time to try this yet.
