Problems with "too many cell formats" error in Excel

I am getting a "too many cell formats" error in an Excel workbook and want to
know if there is a fix besides changing the look of my spreadsheet. I am
using Excel Professional.

There are 4096 placeholders for formats. And you cannot cross the limit.

Possibly you could use styles (menu Format / Style) instead of raw formats.
