Program responds very slowly

As of a couple of days ago Oulook takes forever to open and e-mail messages take a long time to open up as well. I have scanned my computer for visuses using several scanners and everything is fine. I have defragged and pretty well done everything I can think of but to no avail. This happens whether I am in HTML or text format.
Anyone have any suggestions?
