Progress window

Entourage's so-called "progress" window opens every time it checks for
email, taking up screen space, interfering with open applications and
generally being bothersome. (It checks for mail in 10 accounts.) Is
there anyway that Entourage can be set to check for new emails
without going through the "progress" routine?

I agree the Progress window could be a lot more unobtrusive.

Disable it in the "Window" menu, deselect "Progress".

Gnarlie,
Thanks for the suggestion, but there is no obvious way to deselect the
Progress window in the version of Entourage I'm using. I'm using
Entourage 10.1.1 on a Mac iBook running OS 10.2.8.

I keep the progress window closed, but it opens automatically
whenever Entourage checks for new email.

Then why not update to 10.1.4? I couldn't promise that would fix it but but
it seems like a good idea anyway.

In any case, I don't remember having that problem in that version, maybe
there is a preference setting for it?

I don't think so. Usually you can keep the Progress window closed by
clicking the "Close" button while the mail check is still in progress. The
only reason it should still pop up would be if you send a newsgroup message,
because the Progress window cannot be disabled in that situation.
