Project Center View Security

(MSPS '07) I have a Project Center view that contains sensitive status
information about every project on the server accross all departments. It is
okay for each department to see status data regaridng their own projects -
but for other departments. If an appropriatley designed security set-up
is in place, will this view accomplish the desired results or do I need to
replicate this view for each department? I would like to have one view only
- that way upper management can see all projects in the same view.

You only need one Project Center view for this purpose. Project Server
security will determine which projects each department can see using that
one View. Hope this helps.

Actually I did have a follow-up question on this one.... In your opinion,
what is the best direction to use when identifying security settings related
to who can see what projects? I can either create custom groups and
categories and assign users accordingly, or leave the default groups and
design a detailed RBS that (I believe) can identify what projects are
accessible by each user. What is your preference?

If it were me, I would prefer the RBS approach. If that fails, you would
need to create a custom Category and Group for the PM's in each department,
and you would also need to individually select each project viewable in each
Category (very labor intensive). Now you can see why I would recommend the
automatic RBS approach! :) Hope this helps.
