project manager - importing projects into different identity

Hi all,

I have been using Project centre to manage job number based projects
since August last year. Due to "issues" with my Entourage 2004 (11.2.3)
for Mac OS 10.4.5 I have had to create a new identity. Trouble is I
can't see any way of bringing in the the 200 or so projects in my "old"
identity without having to backup and re-import every single one
individually.

Surely I am not the first to have this problem?

Cheers and thanks fo rany help!

To recreate them all as Projects, yes, it look like you have to do it that
way. Project files, as such, can only be archived (exported) by specifying
one project at a time. If you instead subscribe to the projects from the new
identity, you don't get to control them from there.

But why did you make a new identity anyway? Can you not fix the "issues"
(what exactly are you talking about?) in the old identity by simply doing a
Rebuild?

Hi Paul,

Actually my IT department did that for me. My Entrourage was hanging
with the spinning wheel of death every time it connected to the network
to pick up an email. It would "recover" when the email was downloaded.
After months of putting up with this and trying to fix it by rebuilding
and optimising databases, changing cables etc we re-created a new
Identity and the problem has gone away. The idea being that clearly
something in my folders was causing the problem.

I am slowly reimporting the folders so that I can identitfy which
folder is the problem but nothing so far.

It is a shame that I can't import the projects. If my new identity was
created because I was actually taking over someone elses job and their
projects, it would be a really good feature to have. I like the
functionality of the Project Manager and the interaction with Entourage
but I guess I need something different to do what I am trying to do.

Thanks for your help anyway!

Cheers

If the 200 or so projects were 'shared', that would explain the delays and
hang ups you were experiencing. Only share a project if it really needs to
be, and when the project has passed, make sure you 'unshare' it.

Hi there,

Actually none of the projects were shared. I am thinking it is just
some strange attachement or similar.

cheers

Good. If they were not shared there should have been no perceptible impact
on performance.
