project - predicting inventory for six years

I am a college student and could really use some help on this project
have due soon. We are to predict how much stock our company needs base
on some hard numbers we have. For example, we sold 2299 scanners i
2003. We also have the information that the towns population is 13,50
and increases by 192 people each year. We also know that 6% of th
population shops in the store each year. So for each item and that kin
of information for each, we have to come up with the formuals to predic
how much stock we will need. With that as an example, how would I com
up with a formula? P.S- we can put in the population, increase eac
year, and the percentage of people that shop in the store each yea
somewhere on the spreadsheet so it will be easier for us to use them i
the formulas, but nothing else can be hard coded

Before getting into how to do this in XL, how would you create a model
to address the issue? The professor must have taught you how to do
some kind of analysis. What was that? And, how would that apply to
this problem?

Also, before you go too far, do some cross-checking. If 6% of the
population of 13,500 shops in the store, how many people would that be?
Based on that, how many scanners per customer did you sell in 2003? Is
that realistic?
