Project server 2007 install / SQL server question

T

Travlin

I want to install Project server 2007 on a server running SQL server 2005
already. The install for standalone states it will install SQL 2005 express
with Project server. Is the program smart enough to NOT trash my running SQL
server install with the Express it has with it?

I didn't go further into the install routine due to not wanting to risk it.

All input greatly appreciated.

Travlin:

In the future, please post your questions to
Microsoft.public.project.server. If you use the "Stand-Alone" install
option, you get a very skinnied down Non-Enterprise installation of Project
Server that only operates with SQL Express. Selecting this option likely
would not have trashed your SQL 2005 installation as much as it would have
simply ignored it. You should select the Complete installation and then
small farm option. Make sure you read through the installation guidance on
TechNet. I don't recommend installing this to the same machine on which you
are running SQL Server, although you can do it, there are issues with this.

Look forward to seeing you in the Project Server news group.
