Project should allow variable (Contract Start) start date

I need to show the start date as differential, not absolute date. So I want
to show it as "Contract Award" or CA. Then, all tasks should show as CA+10
days or CA+30 days. By forcing the strong-typing of the date, you prevent
this.

Project does NOT prevent you from doing this.

Project does allow you to display the timescale as project start + x days,
weeks etc.
You just need to set the timescale correctly. Though you are right, it won't
allow you to designate it as a "named" date like "CA". It is always project
start.

However, it is trivial to get exactly what you want using a formula in a
custom field.
Put the following in a text field
"CA + " & DateDiff("d",[Project Start],[Finish]) & " days"
You can then display the result in a column or as text on the ganttbar
itself.
