Protecting and saving emails in upgrade

I know it's late, but I would like to upgrade from Entourage X Service
Release 1 to Entourage 2004. (I am finally upgrading my MS Office
suite.) I save most of my emails and refer to them, so when I
upgrade, I want to make sure all my email remains in the Entourage
Inbox and Outbox. Is there anything special I will need to do to make
sure this happens? The last thing I want to happen is lose my
emails. Thanks for any and all help.

When you import from a previous version, Entourage imports your mail into a
new database. You will see Office X Identities and Office 2004 Identities
folders in the Microsoft User Data folder. After you are satisfied with your
upgrade you can delete Office X and the Office X Identities folder.

Right now I can't remember if the imported email is put into an imported
folder where you have to drag it to your new folders or if the messages go
to the correct folder. It's just been a while since I upgraded. It's easy to
overlook the folder and think no mail was imported.

See the New to 2004 page:

See these links for additional help upgrading:

Once you have installed Office 2004 be sure to upgrade.

You need to get these updaters:

11.3.5 combo
11.3.6 requires 11.3.5 to be installed
11.3.7 requires 11.3.6 to be installed
11.3.8 requires 11.3.7 to be installed

IIRC, if you import when you first start entourage, it puts all the info in
the right place. If you import into a pre-existing identity, it creates a
new folder for the import.

Again, it's been a good few years since I last imported into 2004, so I may
mis-remember

Thanks to both of you. This is very helpful. Any idea if there are
any Entourage 2004 issues with Leopard?

Only issue I've seen so far is that I've had to exclude my 6gb database from
Time Machine!

I just installed Leopard last night and so far have not experienced any
problems.

See this article "Leopard update breaks Entourage support for Exchange SSL
root certificates" on the Entourage Help Blog for info on using Entourage
with Leopard.
