Pub 2000: Max zoom in large paper sizes

disposable

Hi All:

In Publisher 2000 SP-3:

I have a banner publication, about 200mm by about 1000 mm that I print
by tiling onto A4 sheets. I have a few questions:

1) Is the maximum size of this banner determined by my printer, or by
Publisher?

2) I notice that when I extend it somewhat beyond the 1000 mm length,
that the maximum I can zoom in is 100%. Is there a way around this? Can
a later vsn of Publisher zoom in more? The banner may be extended to
1500 mm or more in future, and I would like to be able to zoom in more.

3) I understand that later vsns can work with compressed jpegs. The
banner has a moderate amount fo text, and a few small images, but
occupies over 7 MB. Again: would an upgrade reduce file size?

Thanks for your time,
Garry

A bit of both. If you're tiling, your printer should not have any effect on
the maximum length. You are then limited by Publisher's maximum page size,
which is somewhere in the region of 6 metres.

If you're not tiling, then Publisher's upper limit of 48" on paper size
comes in. Publisher will tile any document larger than 48", even if you're
printing on paper large enough to handle it. You will also be limited by
the paper size your printer can handle.
2) I notice that when I extend it somewhat beyond the 1000 mm length,

I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to zoom in past 100% on large
banners.

Publisher 2003 can zoom in to the maximum 800% on documents at the maximum
6m x 6m.
3) I understand that later vsns can work with compressed jpegs. The

Publisher 2003 can work with compressed JPEGs.

Publisher 2002 will only compress as PNG.

An upgrade would reduce filesize. All images in your Publisher 2000 files
would be converted to PNG. If you have JPEG files and you re-imported them,
they would then be stored as JPEG, and filesize would be further reduced.

Note that in Publisher 2000, when images are deleted from the publication,
they are not actually deleted from the file. This is another cause of file
size bloat, removed in later versions.

Thanks for your reply Ed. Very helpful

Dunno why the zoom has ceased to zoom past 100%, but I came across the
behaviour last night with the banner doc when I had just extended it to
something past 1000mm. The dropdown box has nothing beyond 100%. Other
Publisher docs can zoom in just fine.

I may go out and buy Pub 2003 today!

Hi there Sarah:
You type a number, press return, and it stays at 100%. The zoom box
shows 100%.
