Public Folder issues...

Hi. I hope someone can be of use to me on this! I'm running Entourage
on Mac OS 10.4.8 (before you ask, I DO need to upgrade to 11.3.3).
I'm connected on an exchange network at my workplace where we use the
Public Folders so anyone in the company can access them at anytime.
This is fine for the PC users with Outlook. When I try and connect, I
can see all the folders, but not their contents. A Mac engineer came
into the office today and confirmed it was not a server connection
issue (I can always copy to and from the main server) and came to the
conclusion that it was an Entourage problem. I tried highlighting
various folders within our Public Folders and adding myself as a user
after doing 'command-i' in 'permissions' and giving myself all
priveleges by calling myself 'Owner', but to no avail.
Can anyone help on this??? Thanks in advance!!

We use Public FOlders here as well and I sure can see the content of all
folders.
Did you subscribe to the folders you were interested in ?? Did you give
them enough time to refresh??
If it still doesn't work on subscribed folders, I would suspect an
Echange server issue (did *they* install all the patches???).

I've read in several posts here that you need to 'subscribe' to the
folders. I have no idea how to do this and there is not an obvious
place to look to do this - I've highlighted folders and gone through
all the menus and looked and looked in the tool bar, but nothing shows
up. I've also read about looking in the account settings under
'advanced' and clicking a button in the 'mail tab'. Well, running OS X
10.4.8 and Entourage v. 11.3.3, I guess they must be talking about the
PC version, because I have none of that.

I can see ALL the folders (in Public Folders - all that's within these
folders are PDF's), but none of the contents unless they are Excel
files.

What are these 'patches' you speak of?? Do I need to pont the IT dept.
in the right direction????

HELP!!!!

Select the folder and control-click it. The subscribe command is right
there.

Well the advanced options are in Tools>Accounts.
From there you can select your Exchange account to go to the Advanced
tab.
All you can do ther is set the proper path for the Public folders, but I
suspect that if you can see the hierarchy of Public folder, this setting
should be OK for you.

I can see ALL the folders (in Public Folders - all that's within these

Well patches are the same as Software updates. I've seen quite a few
glitches in ENtourage that all got solved when our NetAdmin finally
installed the updates for Exchange on our server.

Entourage 2004 does not support accessing files within Public Folders.
You can only store and view emails, posts, calendars and address books.

Entourage 2008 may include better Public Folder support that works with
files.

Hope this helps! bill

As I'd feared. Why hasn't this issue been sorted in Entourage? Seem
sridiculous to me that a PC user can view them, but not a Mac user.
Don't Outlook and Entourage have the same basic code for stuff like
this?? Is it any wonder people HATE Windoze!!!!!!!!!!!! Any idea when
Entourage 2008 is due (late '07 or actually in '08??).

Thanks also, Corentin, for your help!! Cheers!!

Entourage and Outlook do NOT "have the same basic code." They are entirely
separate applications developed at different times in history. Outlook
existed before Entourage came along. Entourage has been steadily adding
support for Exchange features, but it is impossible to add them all at once.

There is a trick to access the files from the FInder though :->

- Press command-k to get the Connect to server dialog
- use the address http://www.myserver.com/public (of course, you need to
replace www.myserver.com with the address of your own OWA server).
- enter you login and password and you should be in the public folders
:)

You will probably get quite a few requests from the Finder asking you to
authenticate again (it's trying to write .DS_Store files in localitions
where you;re not allowed to do so), just ignore them and press cancel.

With this trick I can see all files in the folders I have access to and
I can also upload some there.

Thanks for that! I thought it was going to work, but I kept hanging
several times and when they did come up nothing appeared within the
folders. So close, yet so far...!!!!!

Weird... I really wonder why. We sure see everything through this
approach on our Macs.
