Public Folders and Contacts

I have what I hope is a relatively simple question for the kind MVP's
in the forum to answer. I've got an Exchange 2000 SP3 sandbox server
in my office for testing purposes, and unlike some others here on the
forums, I've been able to get email and contact and calandar syncing
to work fine with my account. Bravo. The question I have is that the
public contacts and public calandar folders appear (like others have
noted) as a folder full of messages. Is there ANY way to view and
modify a public folder calandar in the same way you can with Outlook
2001? If it is a top-level folder limitation, perhaps I could see
that, but without this capability, my clients are going to see this as
a relatively useless upgrade; and after hours of trolling docs, this
forum and several others, I have yet to see any clarification of ths
(hopefully) simple question...

No, the Entourage Exchange Update doesn't support viewing contact or
calendar public folders in any particularly useful way.

Yes, the MacBU does know that this is important to Exchange users.

Hi James,

Paul Berkowitz answered a similar question earlier today as follows:
No, no public folder. Global Address Book yes, your own Entourage contacts
yes. I'm not sure if these link to anywhere outside Entourage but they
certainly are accessible from other Entourage identities and computers that
access the same Exchange account. But not, I don't think, to anyone else on
another Exchange account, so not public.

I am not sure if I understand the question completely, but here is what I
guess is the answer to your question:

- In Entourage calendars ar viewd with the Calendar view. Click the Calendar
icon on the toolbar and it shows you a full fledged calendar, not a bunch of
'calendar items'.

- If you feel the Calendar _folder_ is confusing for your users, I can
understood it can be excluded from being published throug IMAP. So you can
tunr it off on the Exchange server (in any event this can be done with
public folders; i am not sure whether it can be donewith the Calendar
folder).

Thanks for the responses and clarifications, I see that several others
have now posted the same observations and limitations, but it is nice
to know that I wasn't just experiencing a misconfiguration problem.
I'm not sure why you don't understand the question, but as others have
pointed out in threads above, without the capability to browse public
folders and contacts, give permissions to others to browse your own
folders, or even change your password, I think it is quite misleading
to label this update as giving Entourage users Exchange compatibility.
Sure, I can now sync my personal calandar to the server (but I can't
give permission for anyone else to look at it), and I can browse the
GAL, but this "upgrade" doesn't even come close to delivering true
Exchange compatibility. Perhaps there will be a port of Evolution
soon (let's hope)...

I thought the Calendar sharing and display was via WebDAV, which is
capable...?
