Public Folders dominate my CPU

We still can't get access to anyone else's calendar so here's a new wrinkle:
My company has a billion public folders on the Exchange system. About every
2 minutes or so, my Macintosh completely stops what it is doing, including
typing or window scrolling, and displays the Spinning Beach Ball Of Death.
This puzzled me until I noticed that the Entourage window was displaying its
activity description in the bottom left margin. It was polling all of the
public folders. Is there a way to turn this off? Is there a way to delete
the public folder icon? I don't need it and I do not need access to any of
the public folders on our system.

Go into Tools/Accounts/Exchange/the account/Edit/"Click here for Advanced
Receiving Options"

Uncheck the "Check for unread messages in all folders" box.

Does that help?

Could be, thank you.
I'll know in a few minutes, eh?

But could that have been just a LITTLE MORE OBSCURE?
Sarcasm mode off.

GREAT question ... I would love an answer to this question. Is there a
way to unsubscribe to public folders or something?

A semi-related question. I'm new to exchange mail. it's nice not to
have to run a send and receive schedule anymore ... it seems the the
inbox, sent items, etc. just automatically update instantly when there
is new mail. HOWEVER, it doesn't always ... sometimes I have to click
on another folder, then back on my inbox for it to refresh and show
new mail. Is there a preference somewhere that controls this. It seems
sort of glitchy to me that sometimes new messages appear instantly and
automatically, whereas other times I don't see new messages until I
click around on different folders which causes it to refresh.

Paul,

That certainly stops the Public Folders from being Synchronised, but it also
stops the subfolders in my Inbox from being synchronised!!! I have most
incoming mail responding to rules, and the rules deliver mail to folders for
particular people. These subfolders are not getting new mail from the
server when I go Send/Receive either manually or when it is scheduled.

It is MOST important that subfolders continue to get mail in this situation.

Much as I hate to say it, Public folders and synchronising seems a tad
underdone at this point. And the robustness of the communication between
the server and Entourage, and synchronising events in the calendar is less
than optimal. My politeness at times amazes me... Must be because I'm
also in software development!
