Published Site way to large

D

Dennis

Greetings,
I am new to this forum and Im looking for assistance. I just completed
building a site for my wifes business, when I published it it shows up huge
on most computers. I built this on a new laptop with a high resolution
screen (1680x1050) and failed to change any settings prior to my building the
site. How can I get the site down to a somewhat normal viewbale size for most
computers? Have never had this problem before. Using FP 2003.
Please help...

You have to build it that way from the start, paying attention to the
maximum width of your page elements and their contents. Most people still
shoot for pages that are 760px wide - no wider, unless you have information
to the contrary about your potential viewers.

Thanks Murray, I was affraid of that answer. Guess I have some work ahead of
me.

Start over and use more reasonable widths of things with fixed width.

I like to use tables for all of my content, and use percentages, instead of
pixels, to set all the dimensions. This way, regardless of what browser or
resolution, the page will be in the proper porportions.

In the future, make sure you make use of FP's "Preview in Browser" feature
located under the File menu. You can see how your page will look in 800x600,
1024x768, etc.

That would happen with no dimensions specified, too.

Resolution and screen dimensions only determine the maximum browser width.
They have no impact on page rendering.
