Publisher 2.0a longer file names?

Does anyone have an idea how to work around Publisher 2.0a's file name
limitations? Is there some utility that I can download that will allow me to
create longer filenames?

By the way, I'm running Pub on a PC with Win '98. Yeah, they're both really
old but in my opinion this version of Publisher is the best. I've got later
versions but prefer this one.

Thanks!

Nope. Publisher 2.0a is a 16-bit application, and as such is completely
limited to 8.3 filenames.

(N.B.: Publisher 2.0a will NOT run under Windows XP 64-bit edition -
although that probably won't be a worry of yours for a while, if you're
still on Windows 98.)

If you could get Microsoft to release the source code for Publisher 2.0a to
you, you might be able to recompile it using 32-bit common dialogs, etc.,
but I doubt it would be easy, and I doubt you'd get the source code out of
Microsoft anyway.

I remember one resident (who has been absent of late) saying that the three
best versions of Publisher were Publisher 2.0a, Publisher 97, and Publisher
2003.
