Publisher 2003 vs Word 2000

I produce a newsletter and have been using Word 2000 and have just about
pulled out my hair in frustration. Word literally has a mind of its own! I'll
set a header style and, without warning, it will change the font, font size
and even font appearance. As well, when I put in a graphic, it won't hold the
settings in 2-column format. However, when I change it to single column and
back to 2, it's okay. What gives?

As well, with Word, I have to physically manouever columns/text if it splits
onto the next page. In Word, I can't put a graphic/photo into a Text Box. If
I put my text into a table and then split the text INSIDE the table into 2
columns, i end up with 2 tables, side-by-side. All I want to do is have a
shaded text box with a graphic of photo inside. Very frustrating.

My question -- I've never used Publisher before but will be using it for my
next newsletter. I'm guessing that these problems won't happen. Please
confirm it for me.

Thanks!

For the newsletter I do, I started out with Word, tried PowerPoint, and
bought Publisher. It's not perfect but has the most tools I need.

It's very hard to do a newsletter with Word. It's hard to manipulate and
position graphics, and, as you noticed, the column flow becomes
maddening when you add or subtract a few words.

Publisher takes a little getting used to, but it will definitely make
your job easier. You can set up master pages so you have the same
headers/footers on all pages, and you get automatic pagination, which is
sweet. Columns flow from one text box into another, which makes editing
much easier.

Help is pretty clear on most things. If you need more help after that,
feel free to come back here.

You will find many things are different. Having use both
for years, I can't concieve the time when I would try to
produce a newsletter in Word. Let Publisher's Help become
your best friend. If you can't find the answer there, come
back to these Newsgroups for an answer.
