It is possible and in your case the easiest and cheapest solution, if you are
using Windows XP, might be to use Microsoft's free Movie Maker
(
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx) to
create a video file. It is well suited to Photo Album type presentations. You
would need to save your slides as images (PNG) and use them in Movie Maker.
Or if your DVD player is also a recorder, and your video card has an S-Video Out
port, you can connect your computer to the recorder.
Otherwise PowerPoint doesn't save your presentation to video for you and third
party software ($100 and up) is needed.
