Put your wish list for SP3 for Office 2003 here

B

boe

Since discussing the Beta 12 is frowned upon - let's discuss what SP3 for
Office 2003 should include. Maybe they'll offer them in Office 12 as well.

Here are some crazy ideas for MS to consider - I know they won't but what
the hell - if wishes were fishes...

FASTER - stop bloating it, make the code more efficient, and open faster and
get rid of typing lag.

More reliable - I'd love to open and close outlook thinking there won't be
any issues (crossed fingers). Did it really close? Did it close the
database properly so it won't take 5 minutes to repair when it opens next
time?

More productivity - Open two outlook profiles simultaneously!

Better integration - Business Contact Manager could actually keep
information in a format that is available via OWA and WM5.

Supports more formats - databases with pictures? - Madness I tell you, sheer
madness!

Fix the search so that it doesn't tell me it was FROM me when I search my
mailbox- I'm pretty sure it was from me if it is in my sent folder. Always
show TO and FROM so that no matter what folder you search (in case you
search more than one) it gives you easy to scan data. Yes - I know I can
change the fields AFTER the search but that isn't very handy now, is it?

I'd like to see search in search results. sometimes there's too much lettes
in simple search.

B

boe

That's a great idea! So you could refine your search by searching the
results - I've seen it in some web pages but never even thought about it in
Outlook - Well Done!

Service Packs for any Microsoft program (Windows, Office, Exchange, etc.)
are traditionally collections of bug fixes, not product enhancements.
Service Releases may include new functionality. The only exception I know
to this is the Exchange SP-2 that had some product improvements.

BTW, Microsoft does not normally read the news groups so posting your
suggestions via the web page would get more attention than here.

I get the feeling MS typically does not read suggestions via their web page
either.

No, they actually do and collect them in a database to guage what features
are most commonly requested that are not already included in the current
product. Their recent testing showed that 80% of the product enhancement
requests for Office 12 already exist in Office 2003 and earlier.

I appreciate your responses to my posts. When I want a feature in an office
product, I go to Help, Contact Us, Make A Suggestion, the post goes here
which is where I think you are saying MS doesn't bother to read. Perhap all
the times I thought I was making a suggestion to MS was a waste of typing.
What is the correct way to make a suggestion so MS actually reads it?

||||
||||| I get the feeling MS typically does not read suggestions via their
||||| web page either.

||||| |||||| Service Packs for any Microsoft program (Windows, Office,
|||||| Exchange, etc.) are traditionally collections of bug fixes, not
|||||| product enhancements. Service Releases may include new
|||||| functionality. The only exception I know to this is the
|||||| Exchange SP-2 that had some product improvements.
||||||
|||||| BTW, Microsoft does not normally read the news groups so posting
|||||| your suggestions via the web page would get more attention than
|||||| here.

|||||| After furious head scratching, boe asked:
||||||
||||||| Since discussing the Beta 12 is frowned upon - let's discuss
||||||| what SP3 for Office 2003 should include. Maybe they'll offer
||||||| them in Office 12 as well.
|||||||
||||||| Here are some crazy ideas for MS to consider - I know they won't
||||||| but what the hell - if wishes were fishes...
|||||||
||||||| FASTER - stop bloating it, make the code more efficient, and
||||||| open faster and get rid of typing lag.
|||||||
||||||| More reliable - I'd love to open and close outlook thinking
||||||| there won't be any issues (crossed fingers). Did it really
||||||| close? Did it close the database properly so it won't take 5
||||||| minutes to repair when it opens next time?
|||||||
||||||| More productivity - Open two outlook profiles simultaneously!
|||||||
||||||| Better integration - Business Contact Manager could actually
||||||| keep information in a format that is available via OWA and WM5.
|||||||
||||||| Supports more formats - databases with pictures? - Madness I
||||||| tell you, sheer madness!
|||||||
||||||| Fix the search so that it doesn't tell me it was FROM me when I
||||||| search my mailbox- I'm pretty sure it was from me if it is in my
||||||| sent folder. Always show TO and FROM so that no matter what
||||||| folder you search (in case you search more than one) it gives
||||||| you easy to scan data. Yes - I know I can change the fields
||||||| AFTER the search but that isn't very handy now, is it?

Unfortunately not but thanks for offering.

Not that I know of - is there a list with columns that you can reorder by
clicking on them? (Can you tell I never used that link? :) )

||| I appreciate your responses to my posts. When I want a feature in
||| an office product, I go to Help, Contact Us, Make A Suggestion, the
||| post goes here which is where I think you are saying MS doesn't
||| bother to read. Perhap all the times I thought I was making a
||| suggestion to MS was a waste of typing. What is the correct way to
||| make a suggestion so MS actually reads it? "Milly Staples [MVP -
||| message |||| No, they actually do and collect them in a database to guage what
|||| features are most commonly requested that are not already included
|||| in the current product. Their recent testing showed that 80% of
|||| the product enhancement requests for Office 12 already exist in
|||| Office 2003 and earlier.
