query builder grayed out?

Hi. I'd be thankful if anyone could tell me, why all options are
grayed out for me in tools >> instant search >> expand the query
builer (Outlook2007).
Sorry for not being more specific, but I don't know what additional
information would be needed to answer this question. Please tell me,
if so. Thank you.

PS: I forgot to mention that I want to search contact items (not e-
mails, etc.). Thank you.
