question about Microsoft User Data backups

If I make a duplicate of the Microsoft User Data folder in the Finder,
is that as good as the original in case I need it to restore?

I ask because I'd like to send a backup of this folder to an online
backup service every so often, but since transmission will take some
time, I'd prefer to work off a copy (so that my running version of
Entourage does not disturb the database trying to be captured and
transmitted).

Since the database is large, you might look at other options to use in
conjunction with your current backup strategy. In Entourage 2004 you can
export as an Entourage archive (.rge) file. This is much smaller than
duplicating the database.
