questions about simple list numbering

I have some questions about numbering for which I have not found
answers in the many articles referenced in this group (those on
word.mvps.org, syntagma.demon.co.uk, shaunakelly.com, addbalance.com
etc.,). I am creating a doc that will include simple list numbering
for a client. Once I give this doc to the client, she will be updating
it, so I want to implement a numbering scheme that is easy for her to
use and try to avoid SEQ fields, VBA, and structured headings. The
client will be cutting and pasting within the doc and from other docs
of varied sources. The document will have a simple number scheme as
follows:

1. xxx
zzzzzzz
2. xxx
a. yyy
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
b. yyy
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
3. xxx

1. xxx
zzzzzzzzzzz
2. xxx

My questions:

- Are the document templates (accessed by selecting File > New) any
more solid with their numbering? That is, if I use one of these
templates, will the client have less problems with restarting and
continuing numbered lists?

- Is there a way that I can set up two styles calling one Numbered List
Restart and Numbered List Continue and have the client use these to
start and continue list numbers?

- If I set up a style called Skip Number and use the SkipNumbering
command and use ,the List Number and List Continue styles that come
with Word, will this help keep numbers in order?

- Or, is my best bet to tell the client that if she copies and pastes
text from numbered lists or from other documents to clear the
formatting using Ctrl + Q and then apply the styles I have set up for
her?

Thanks in advance.
