Reading e-mail

incognito

Since a few days the display of e-mail messages has changed. Previously,
when I received an e-mail from a News Service with embedded HTML pages
Entourage displayed the pertinent web site with embedded pictures and text
in preview mode. Also, double clicking on the message switched to Safari
opening the page and all sublinks. Now, I get a page with a bunch of links
that must be activated to get to the display of the full content.
What may I have messed up?

The address that the messages appears to be From may have changed so that it
no longer matches your Mailing List Manager entry or contact in the Address
Book.

On the chance that you might not know why Dave¹s answer is a good one....
Entourage does not display ³pictures² automatically unless the sender is in
your address book.

That applies to Entourage 2004, yes. But if you look at the source for
so-called "incognito's" message you'll see he was writing from Entourage
10.1.4. (It would be nice if people would say what their version is,
especially when writing from a web browser.)

First I'd check Preferences to see if "Display Complex HTML" and "Allow
interactive display" prefs are enabled. (I can't recall if those are in Mail
& News/Security or some other prefs in Entourage X but it sounds as if you
turned off the second one. In X, it's a general pref for all messages.)

PLEASE always state which version of Microsoft Office you are using -
**2004**, X or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions
otherwise.

Oh.

Wouldn¹t have helped me to see that, although I hope I would have had the
sense not to chime in. I started messing with Entourage only in this
version, after Eudora began to annoy me (for reasons I can¹t recall).

The preferences that to which Paul is referring are actually under Entourage
Mail & News Preferences. Click the "Read" tab, and check the options to
"Display complex HTML" and "Allow network access".

I am grateful for all the input I received regarding my sudden mystery about
the changed display of preview pages of news subscriptions. I also
apologize not having mentioned that I am using Entourage 10.1.4 Ver. SR 1.
Normally I am a bit more conscientious but omitted it in my haste.
I have looked into the Preference option page and found that I had ŒDisplay
complex HTML in messages¹ and ŒAllow Internet Access when accessing complex
HTML messages¹ checked. At this moment of writing I am waiting for the next
news to be delivered and will check whether a change in this option makes a
difference. Will let everybody know.
Thank you all!

In addition to my previous message I should have reported that I use
MSOffice X. Please take note.

To all who gave me advice on this issue:

Assuming from your feedback that the display of Œcomplex HTLM in messages¹
was involved in my issue, and since the suggested solution was in fact
³installed² and activated by check marks, I proceeded to reinstall Entourage
from my Office:Mac CD then turned off the computer and restarted it this
morning. Lo and behold, the display does again what I was used to.
Victory (over whatever demon messed my Mac up)!
Thank you all, folks, you are doing a great great job for us poor souls.
Keep it up.
Regards,
Rudolf
