Ready to dump Entourage.

It's constantly displaying unread messages, undeletable read messages, and
duplicate messages. Only way to fix it is to use (HA HA HA), the "Repair
message list", which I now have to use everytime Entourage get my mail!!!. I
mean this is a time wasting joke of an application! And I'm ready to trash
and flush. Mail is a much better application!! Wow.

Have you tried a rebuild of your database? It may or may not offer a more
stable fix.

But it sounds as if you may have an unorthodox IMAP server which may be
doing, or not doing, things expected of servers using modern IMAP protocols.
I have two different IMAP accounts - one on my university's server (a
UIDPLUS IMAP server - Cyrus), and the other .Mac. I've have never had any
problem of this sort in several years of using Entourage. Many many people
who had some issues with Entourage X have no problems with Entourage 2004.
That's why I think it could be a database problem - rebuild the database.
But I also notice you have your own domain. Is it your own server? Are you
sure it's (able to be) set up properly?

In any case, your message was not worded as a request for help. I don't
think you'll find many people here who would agree that Mail is a better
application. Chances are you have some problem with either your database or
your IMAP server.

Oh? Then why do I see this "duplicate messages", "can't delete messages" in
the other Mac list for Entourage??..and if it weren't implicite in my
posting here that I'm looking for more than, "something's wrong with your
server", I wouldn't bother to waste my time with this list. I find it
humorous that Mail works fine (but lacks certain features), Netscape7 works
fine (but slower), BUT it's my server's problem why Entourage doesn't work
as expected. Do you get a check from MS???
...And why the "repair mail list option"?? I think the answer is obvious.

By the way I paid real money for Entourage and it sucks...unless you have a
reasonable answer?

It may still be a problem with your server, notwithstanding the other
clients that work OK with it. Or it may be a problem with Entourage. The
only way to say for sure is to give more information like the name and
version of the server (also the server capabilities - right click on the
server name (not the INBOX) and choose Get Info), and maybe some analysis of
what operations Entourage is sending if you have a network analyser. (You do
- tcpdump - though it is tricky to use.)

Are you using what MS call "Live Sync"?
Do you get a check from MS???

I don't believe Paul does.
..And why the "repair mail list option"?? I think the answer is obvious.

Yes, Microsoft have seen servers misbehaving during testing.
By the way I paid real money for Entourage and it sucks...unless you have a
reasonable answer?

A less antagonistic approach from you might help, frankly. You don't
*deserve* a response from unpaid individuals on a newsgroup.

Cheers,

Chris

What should the "get info window" say??? IMAP4REV1 is all that is mentioned
concerning server/imap versions. But again, there isn't much I can do about
my server. And as stated, Mail, Netscape7 works, and they are FREE. So I
would expect at least as good but Better is more like it. MS charges for an
inferior product???Hey haven't I seen this before?? And if you don't work
for them they're getting a good deal for your services. However I'm just
interested if Entourage WILL WORK AS EXPECTED. If one thinks no then that's
cool but don't tell me it's the server's fault. I would expect that MS would
build the application to have setting which can be adjusted for whatever
server's out there. When an individual is given an account at a university
or business they don't go and complain that their client works but the
server is not working as expected? That doesn't happen too often because
others use the client that WILL work and as far as I can tell "hothouse
flower" Entourage doesn't? Oh wait I'll tell my academic computing director
that MS is perfect and he'd better get his slack arse in there and fix the
freak'n server so it works well with MS's Entourage??? I don't know what
world you live in but I live in a world where people have been seeing this
stuff for years from MS. "Doesn't play well with others" kinda thing, Where
have you been? This is just another aggravating example evidently?
Are you using what MS call "Live Sync"? NO

I don't believe Paul does. Then you do?

Yes, Microsoft have seen servers misbehaving during testing.
Again it's like blaming the victim. MS, the richest computer related
business company on earth doesn't put enough resources into Entourage to
make it a completely usable program across the board. What's everybody
elses' problem??? Give me a break.
A less antagonistic approach from you might help, frankly. You don't

I've been posting to usenet for years. You don't tell someone who has a
problem with their app that it their problem unless you have an idea what it
might be. The 'your server is bad" isn't even close. It would be better to
have said..."I know your pain, Entourage is a piece of shit...it only works
if you kiss it's ass every five minutes."
Thank you, for saving me time. I'll go back to Mail.

I don't believe Chris does either and I sure don't.
BTW, accusing people to be partial because MS would be paying them is
usually not the best way to get help from other users in the newsgroup
:->

Actually, it would help if you could mention what version of Entourage
you are using, what version of the OS and if you are using Exchange,
what version of Exchange the server supports.
- It *could* be a problem with the server (as Paul pointed out)
- it *could* be a problem with the cache on your account on the Mac
- it could be something else, but you didn't really give us much details
so people in the newsgroups can't do much more than point you to the
most likely culprit (server problems - 99% of the problems in my case
with Exchange).

Now if you want to insult other users in the group, don't bother waiting
for another answer from be, go directly back to Matt's answer to your
original post.

I don't believe Chris does either and I sure don't.

I certainly don't work for/get anything from MS.

I believe he has.
