Rebaselining tasks

When rebaselining project plans, I'm seeing that prior closed tasks are
opening up as a result. Has anyone ever had this issue before? Is there a
setting in the options that needs selected to stop this?

Hi Dave,

I'm not sure what you mean by "prior closed tasks are opening up as a
result." Do you mean that the tasks are showing remaining work or remaining
duration?

What version of Project are you using and have you applied all service
packs? The documentation for Project 2003 Service Pack 2 does reference
about 5 issues relating to baselines although I didn't see specific
reference to what I think you may be describing.

See the following knowledge base article for information on SP-2:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887620/

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie.
Thanks for responding. What I mean is this: For example, I have a project
plan with 50 tasks. At this point, I have closed 20 of them. Meaning the
work on those have been completed, and the tasks are closed at 100% complete.

Now I'm at the point of rebaselining my entire plan. When I go through the
steps of baselining the entire project (tools, tracking, save baseline,
entire project), a portion of those prior closed tasks open up. Meaning,
they switch from 100% complete to 0% complete.

I'm trying to find out what could possibly open up closed tasks by simply
rebaselining those tasks. I use MSP 2003. I need to speak with my LAN group
to determine if we have all the SP's. I was thinking it was possibly a
setting in the options I am overlooking, and that someone has seen this same
issue and knew the fix. I can't find it in any documentation up to date.

Thanks for your help and let me know if you hear or find anything.

Hi Dave,
You're welcome and thanks for the feedback and clarification. I have tried
to quickly reproduce the problem you describe and have been unable to. I am
using Project 2003 with SP2 installed. You can check your installation SP
by choosing Help > About Microsoft Office Project. On the top line of the
dialog box, after the Microsoft Office Project release information you
should also see Service Pack info.

I don't know of any option that would cause a rebaseline to change the %
complete of any task.

I'll keep hacking about and if I can reproduce the problem I'll post again.
