Rebuild removes calendar category information

So my Entourage database is getting big, over 2 Gb and gets corrupted
about once a week.

Each time I rebuild it, all of the category information in my calendar
gets removed, and also all of my column preferences (which columns,
widths, etc) get deleted

Have other people experienced this?

Yes, only with Exchange accounts though. It's a known limitation. You
can craft an AppleScript to back up the categories to a custom field
then restore them later if you want. See
