Rebuild

Several times over the past few weeks I have had to rebuild the database.
What would case this to happen, how do I correct it?

What version Entourage. How big is the database (Identity). When you
say you had to rebuild, what behavior occurred where rebuilding was
suggested?

Older versions of Entourage have a 2gig file size limit on the Database
file, which was then upped to 4 gigs (sorry, I can't recall which
versions) - but the newest versions have unlimited file size on the
database (or at least very very much larger) - if you haven't upgraded
in the last year, then this may be your problem.
If your mac crashes fairly often while you have Entourage open, this
can also corrupt your database.
