Hello,
I am trying to re-build my entourage database. However
after a few minutes, I get an error: "Rebuilding Failed.
The end of the file was reached."
After trying to rebuild again, I get the following,
:"Rebuilding Failed. It is likely that your database can
not be repaired".
I have tryed a tyical re-biuld and will be trying a
advanced re-build shortly.
Can anyone give me a heads up on what is going on here and
actions to take to correct the problem.
Thanks in Advance,
Mark.
It is at this point I would restore my database from a backed up copy.
For me I clone my main hard drive to an external drive partition.
Database can be found:
Users/your home directory/documents/microsoft users data/
Office x identities/main identity/database, Cache etc.
If you haven't backup, then I guess check out the Entourage MVP's site, and
cross your fingers. You can try check your files with something like Nortons
Disk Doctor, but I think you are in big do do.
The only other suggestions
- may be to try an Atypical rebuild.
- If you are able to run entourage program, a possible work (this is along
process) around would be.
1. On your desktop or in drive with a lot of space create the following
folders:
(i) Email Folder
a) Email_Inbox
b) Email_Sent
c) Email_Draft
...z) Email_whatever_is_last folder
(ii) Address book folder
Other folders for the other Entourage Categories (Notes, Calendars, Tasks)
if you don't have a palm
2. Attempt to use Palm Sync.
If you have a palm, see if you can sync all the addressbook calendar and
tasks and notes across to your palm.
3. Addressbook:
If you have a lot of address book entries with individualised component
(pictures etc) I would open the Address book folder that you made on the
destop of your computer, then click on address book and select all entries
(apple - A). Drag and drop all the entries into it (you will see your
computers spining wheel come up and this does take a while 10 - 20 minutes
for a lot of entries).
Make sure that the entries are saved as vCards (check extension or drop one
on Apples Address book [another good place to backup your addressbook
entries].
4. Email:
Click on the email folder/inbox within the Entourage program, select all
(apple - A) then drag and drop them to the desktop folder you have setup
Email_inbox, repeat for all your other email boxes.
5. Review
- You should now have a back up of your calendar, notes and tasks on your
plam.
- now have copies of emails in folders on your desktop
- now have copies of your address book entries in an addressbook folder as
vCards.
6. I would now create a new identity in home/documents/microsoft users
data/office x identities folder/ call it Backup or something. You can change
it later. Then select all the files in the main identity folder except
Database and Database Cache. Apple - C (copy the files), then in the Backup
folder select it and Apple - V (Paste files). The files will be duplicated.
7. Returning files.
- Open Entourage and goto Entourage Menu >> Switch user, select the Backup
user option.
Email:
- Open it.
- you should notice that there is all your original folders and account
details except for the contents in the email section.
- Opening the Email folders that are on your desktop, for each of the
categories subfolders, select all of there contents, drag and drop them into
the Entourage subfolder by the similar name.
- repeat for the other email folders.
Address book:
- Open your addressbook in Entrouage (should be nil entries).
- Open your Addressbook folder on your desktop, select all the entries in
the folder, Drag and Drop them into the Entourage addressbook.
Calendar/Tasks/Notes:
Goto Hotsync manager>>Conduit settings>>Entourage (doubleclick)>>Select
- Identity = Backup
- Addressbook => Nothing
- Calendar => Palm overwrites Entourage
- Tasks => Palm overwirtes Entourage
- Notes => Palm overwrites Entourage
Sync your palm.
You now should have a working copy of your Entourage Database less the
links. If you don't have a palm you will have to drag and drop the Calendar
entries to desktop folders, same for tasks etc, then drag and drop back into
the new database.
Now your have two things left
!. BACKUP YOUR DATA
2. Rebuild the file to see that it is working, then trash the original main
identity folders contents and either copy the files back into it or renaming
the Backup folder as Main identity.
