Recently used addresses - Clearing addressee list

I have tried clearing the "recently used address list", but it does not
clear. I'm using enchange 2003. I'm getting way too many address choices
(many are wrong addresses) and want to clear the list. Any suggestions
beyond Preferences -> Compose -> Clear List ? Thanks.
