Is it possible to automatically record when an email is received and replied

Record it where? It's already recorded in Entourage's message lists.

If you switch to View/Preview Pane/Below List, you can then add (if
necessary) a Received column to received message folders like the Inbox via
View/Columns, and a Sent column (if not present already) to Sent Items
folders. The Received time will be the time Entourage downloaded the message
from the server even if you read it a little later.

Is this not good enough? You could use my Date Stamp X script from

MacScripter.net <http://macscripter.net/scriptbuilders/>

to add a date stamp to the text of a message just before you send it (you
can't do it automatically) and/or to received messages too if you choose
Message/Edit message first.

Thanks Paul!

I was hoping to have the time stamps recorded in a text or an Excel file -
don't really care where as long as all the time stamps are in the same file.

I want to do some analysis to see how long it takes a representative to
respond to emails (trying to figure out email turnaround).

I will check out MacScripter.net.

Thanks so much,
Pauline

That's a different matter.

If you were to buy my shareware Export-Import Entourage X scripts and write
me privately, I can send you an updated version of my Messages Export from X
script which will have "Received" as well Sent headings. You can open the
tab-text file from each exported folder in which your interested in Excel,
and then focus on just the Received and Sent columns. There is another
script in the package called Excel Change to Date 2004 which will convert
the wordy text dates to real dates, and then you could use a formula to
subtract received from sent after sorting correctly.
