Recover or Prevent Deleting a Subfolder?

S

Scott Heath

I tried to delete a message but deleted a folder instead, partly because
Entourage indicates selections in unselected panes, so you don't always know
what you've selected, and partly because the 'delete-folder' confirmation
box does not look all that special (it usually stops me from making this
mistake, but not this time).

Is there a setting to lock all folders by default, to prevent this from
happening again?

I assume there is no way to recover a deleted folder, since none of its
messages went into 'deleted items' or anywhere else...right?

BTW, this issue must have been discussed before, but I couldn't find it in
the FAQ. Where should I look?

I don't believe there is a way to lock folders such that they cannot be
deleted, unless you can do it in your IMAP or Exchange account on the
server.

Deleted folders should show up as sub-folders of the Deleted Items folder.
They will still be there unless you've emptied the folder.

What version of Entourage are you running? If that is what happens in the
latest version, my question is no longer an issue. On my version, that
doesn't happen (deleted subfolders are permanently gone). I'm running
10.1.4(300702), Entourage X, SR1; on OSX 10.3.5, Dual G4. 1Gig RAM.

Not true . It's been that forever, since Entourage 2001 - and earlier.

If this is a subfolder of a local folder "On My Computer" the subfolder will
now be a subfolder of the local Deleted Items folder.

If it was a subfolder of an IMAP folder, then I'm afraid you're right (but
you should say so). The deleted folder does not appear in the IMAP's Deleted
Items folder, nor anywhere else, nor do its messages. Nor can an Advance
Find find them. This is bad, and should be fixed. The folders ought to end
up in the IMAP Deleted Items folder.

My apologies. You guessed right: the deleted folder was on an exchange
server, and when the I.T. Guys restored my Deleted Items folder, nothing was
there.

Perhaps the FAQ should mention this issue. Am I right in guessing that
these subfolders are 'virtual folders' consisting of pointers to records in
the master database? Might the messages that were in that folder still
exist in some form in the database file?

Sorry about that: I thought CPU and Entourage version info was enough; IMAP
configuration should also have been mentioned. Thanks for your reply, tho.
